AIDA is a diabetic software simulator program which allows interested patients with diabetes and their relatives, as well as health-care professionals and students to experiment with insulin dosage and dietary adjustments on their own computers.

Users who wish to try out the freeware software should be aware that neither the simulations nor the "advice" provided have been formally verified; nor are they individualised for any particular patient.

Therefore it could be dangerous for someone with diabetes to follow the "advice" given or act on the results of the simulated data.

Users should be aware that AIDA can only be regarded as an "educated guess" as to what might happen to a diabetic patient following a change in either insulin or diet. Furthermore, this guess is based on a large number of assumptions which may not all apply to all people with diabetes. Given this, the output from AIDA should be regarded as only applying to hypothetical cases (or "imaginary" patients), and not to a single real subject. Good diabetes care requires the input of a doctor or diabetes specialist supported by a team of specialist nurses, dieticians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, chiropodists, etc... AIDA is not a replacement for such a team.

Rather AIDA should simply be regarded as a 'toy' which some patients and health-care workers have found fun and interesting to use. It is provided here free-of-charge in the hope that more people may find it of some use.

Changes in therapy should be discussed with your doctor. The authors hereby disclaim any liability for the use of this freeware software.

AIDA can be re-distributed free-of-charge with the explicit proviso that the introductory caveats remain with the rest of the system. The authors also cordially request that AIDA not be distributed or packaged up with any other software or system without their prior written (hard copy) consent.
