From within AIDA you can also view the glucose fluxes in the different parts of the model to gain a deeper insight into the way in which glucose is handled in the human body. The next screen shows the different glucose fluxes for Joy Wilson's baseline simulation. The lowermost yellow curve represents the excretion of glucose by the kidneys - which takes place when the blood glucose level rises above the renal threshold of glucose (RTG).

As the blood glucose level increases during the afternoon (above the RTG, which for this case is set at 9 mmol/l) - so an appreciable amount of glucose starts to be excreted into the urine.

Note: The full AIDA system comes with a detailed Technical Guide which describes how AIDA actually works. Also all the model and knowledge-base system details have been published in the international scientific / medical / computing literature and as such are in the public domain, and open to close scrutiny.
